Getting a wallet

A pool holds its money on Solana, so you need a Solana wallet to join one. They are free. Ten minutes, once.

PICK ONE

Any of these four works here, and the pool page finds whichever one you install on its own, so there is nothing to configure. If you have no opinion, take Phantom. If you use Firefox, take Solflare, which is the only one of the four that still supports it.

PHANTOM

The one most people already have.

Computer
Chrome, Brave, Edge
Phone
iPhone and Android

No Firefox. The old Firefox add-on is abandoned, so use Solflare there.

SOLFLARE

The only one of the four with Firefox, and it has a web version.

BACKPACK

Well made, and popular with people already deep in Solana.

Computer
Chrome, Brave, Edge
Phone
iPhone and Android

On Edge you have to turn on “Allow extensions from other stores” before it will install.

JUPITER

Newest of the four. Fine, but the others are more proven.

ON YOUR DEVICE

Windows PC

These are browser extensions, not programs you install. Use Chrome, Brave or Edge and add one from its store, then pin it to your toolbar so you can find it again.

Mac

The same as a PC, and the same extensions. None of the four has a Safari version, so if Safari is all you use, install Chrome for this or use your phone instead, which is easier anyway.

Firefox

Solflare. It is the only one of the four with a Firefox build that is still maintained. Phantom’s exists but has not been updated since 2025, and a wallet that far behind on security updates is not one to keep money in.

iPhone or Android

All four have apps. Get it from the App Store or Google Play, then read the next paragraph, because it catches almost everybody.

On a phone, open pool links inside the wallet app. Every one of these apps has its own browser tab. A page opened in Safari or Chrome cannot see a wallet that lives in another app, so if a pool page says no wallet was found and you know you installed one, you are almost certainly in the wrong browser.

SETTING IT UP

  1. 1

    Create a new wallet

It will offer to make one for you. Take that option unless you already have a wallet somewhere else.
  2. 2

    Write down the recovery phrase

It shows you twelve words. Write them on paper and keep them somewhere safe. Anybody with those words has your money, and if you lose them nobody can get it back for you. Not the wallet, not us. This is the part worth slowing down for.
  3. 3

    Add a little SOL

Solana charges rent for the small accounts a pool creates, paid in SOL. 0.005 SOL covers joining and 0.014 covers creating a pool, a few cents either way. Every one of these wallets can buy some for you.
  4. 4

    Add the buy-in

Pools are paid in USDC, a dollar-pegged token. You need the buy-in amount, and the SOL from step 3 as well. USDC alone cannot pay the rent, so a wallet holding only dollars is stuck.
  5. 5

Open the pool link and press Connect

The pool page tells you exactly what is missing, if anything is, so you can stop guessing.

PUTTING MONEY IN

You need two things, and the second one surprises people. The buy-in is in USDC, a dollar-pegged token. Solana also charges rent for the small accounts a pool creates, paid in SOL. That is about 0.014 SOL to create a pool and 0.005 to join one, which is a few cents. A wallet full of USDC and empty of SOL cannot do either.

Connect a wallet and this will tell you exactly what it is short of.

  1. 1

    Your wallet's own buy buttoneasiest

Phantom and Solflare both sell SOL and USDC inside the wallet, by card and by Apple Pay or Google Pay. This is the one to use: the money arrives in the right wallet on the right network, and there is no address to paste and nothing to mistype. Look for Buy or Deposit. First purchase usually wants a photo of your ID, which is the step that catches people out, so start it before the pool locks rather than five minutes before kickoff.
  2. 2

    Already hold SOL? Swap some

Both wallets have a Swap tab. Trade a little SOL for the USDC you need. Keep 0.014 SOL back for rent. Swapping all of it leaves you with the buy-in covered and nothing able to be signed.
  3. 3

    Or withdraw from an exchange

Buy USDC on Coinbase or Kraken and withdraw it to your wallet address. Cheapest, slowest, and the only route with a way to lose money: the withdrawal network must be Solana. USDC exists on a dozen chains and they are not interchangeable. Sent on Ethereum or Polygon to a Solana address, it does not arrive and cannot be recovered. Withdraw a little SOL too, or you will have dollars you cannot spend.

WORTH KNOWING

Connecting a wallet to a site does not give it permission to spend anything. Every payment is a separate thing you approve, and you see the amount before you approve it.

Nobody from Commish will ever ask for your recovery phrase. Anybody who does is stealing from you, including anybody claiming to be us.

Other Solana wallets work too. These four are listed because they are the ones most people use, not because the pool page checks.
